Itanagar, May 7: In an unprecedented move, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a training program for election officials from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the Tamil language.

A total of 293 participants, including 264 BLO supervisors, 14 EROs, 2 DEOs, and other officials, are part of this mixed-batch training session at IIIDEM, Delhi.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, in his inaugural address, highlighted the crucial role of BLOs as the first point of contact between the Commission and voters.

Their responsibilities include ensuring the accuracy and currency of electoral rolls.

This training is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the skills of election functionaries at all levels, with plans to train over 1 lakh BLOs across the country in the coming years. To date, nearly 2,300 participants have benefited from similar intensive programs organized at IIIDEM.

The two-day session includes interactive training, role plays, and practical exercises to ensure the proper filling of electoral forms like Form 6, 7, and 8. BLO supervisors are also being prepared to serve as assembly level master trainers, capable of training other BLOs.

Additionally, the program familiarised participants with the appeal processes under sections 24(a) and 24(b) of the RP Act, 1950, related to final electoral rolls.

Notably, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had no appeals filed after the completion of the special summary revision exercise held from January 6 to 10 this year.
