New Lainwang, Jun 6: Ngoiwang Lowang, the Chief of New Lainwang village in Tirap district, passed away at his residence on June 4. He was 85.

Family sources said Lowang had been battling kidney and heart-related ailments since 2016 and had undergone treatment at Aditya Diagnostic Centre and Hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam.

He was known for his long-standing role in guiding the affairs of the New Lainwang community. Described by many as a figure of integrity and wisdom, Lowang held a respected position as a traditional leader in the region.

Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin, in a condolence message, described the late chief as a man committed to the welfare and unity of his community.

Lowang is survived by his wife, ten daughters, three sons, fourteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Local residents and community leaders have expressed condolences, recalling his contributions to social harmony and traditional leadership.

Funeral arrangements are being conducted by the family in accordance with customary practices.
