Yupia, Jun 6: In observance of the international day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Papum Pare district administration and ICDS cell on Friday organised a special event at AMA’s Vision Foundation Detoxification Centre.
The programme, held under the banner of the Centre’s flagship initiative Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), featured a one-hour yoga session and a friendly volleyball match for the centre’s inmates.
District ICDS cell deputy director Jaya Taba, commended Taba Mangha, managing director of the detox centre, for his dedicated work in rehabilitating individuals struggling with substance abuse. She encouraged the inmates to adopt a healthier, addiction-free lifestyle.
As a gesture of support, the district administration, the department of social justice, empowerment & tribal affairs, and the ICDS cell presented the centre with a water filter, indoor board games such as chess, ludo, and Chinese checkers, along with fresh fruits for the inmates.
A key highlight of the event was the NMBA pledge, jointly taken by the inmates and visiting officials, reaffirming their commitment to building a drug-free society.
Supporting a green environment, the team also planted saplings on the detox centre campus.
The yoga session was conducted by Yigam Basar, state teacher coordinator of the Art of Living organisation, along with her team, offering the inmates a rejuvenating and mindful start toward recovery.
