Itanagar, Jun 7: The state registered the highest Goods and Services Tax (GST) growth among Indian states in May 2025, recording a 61.9 per cent year-on-year increase in collections, according to the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Itanagar Commissionerate.
The surge in collections has been attributed to sustained economic activity and improved taxpayer compliance across the state.
In a statement, the CGST Itanagar Commissionerate said it has intensified its taxpayer engagement initiatives ahead of GST Day on July 1. In collaboration with the state GST department and local administrations, the commissionerate has launched a series of outreach programmes aimed at boosting voluntary compliance and improving understanding of GST provisions.
Following an earlier session in Pasighat, a programme was held on June 5 at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Roing. The initiative focused on enhancing taxpayer awareness in areas such as GST registration, return filing, input tax credit (ITC) claims, record maintenance, and the Reverse Charge Mechanism.
Officials also addressed sector-specific issues, particularly in construction and works contracts, and clarified frequently misunderstood exemptions and procedural requirements.
The assistant commissioner of CGST Itanagar Commissionerate said that feedback from participants would be used to tailor future outreach efforts. The department is planning similar sessions in other districts, with the next event scheduled in Bomdila.
The CGST Commissionerate stated that it remains committed to fostering a culture of compliance and trust, and that regular engagement with stakeholders would be key to maintaining the positive growth trend in tax collections.
