Likabali, Jun 7: Expressing serious concern over the poor performance of schools in the recent annual examinations, Lower Siang deputy commissioner Rujjum Rakshap on Saturday called for urgent corrective measures to improve academic outcomes across the district.
Chairing a coordination meeting with heads of schools, block and district-level education functionaries here, the DC said the current results were far from satisfactory and urged that tangible improvements must begin from the start of the new academic session.
Rakshap identified several reasons for the poor performance, particularly the lack of coordination and support among teachers, students, and parents. He emphasised that while it is a collective responsibility, the primary onus lies with the teaching community.
“Teachers cannot afford to give up; they are the nation builders,” he said.
The DC stressed the need for effective collaboration between heads of schools, block education officers (BEOs), BRCCs, CRCCs, and local administrative officers. He also suggested adopting government guidelines in spirit while refining teaching methods and enhancing expertise.
Rakshap hinted at introducing a mentorship and school adoption initiative by officers to create a more conducive academic and administrative environment that would motivate both students and teachers.
Deputy director of school education (DDSE) Marte Koyu also voiced concern over the dismal exam results. He urged school heads and teachers to implement the CBSE-mandated attendance system to ensure students meet attendance criteria for exam eligibility.
Koyu also called for comprehensive annual teaching plans, regular reviews of academic progress, and the formation of counselling committees in each school.
“Instead of playing the blame game, every teacher should take this as a challenge and aim to make Lower Siang one of the best-performing districts,” he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, Koyu EAC Dr Marngam Kakki, reminded teachers of the nobility of their profession and encouraged them to continue imparting education with renewed zeal despite challenges, in order to uplift academic standards next year.
Earlier in the meeting, principals, headmasters, and head teachers presented reports, suggestions, and queries.
A PowerPoint presentation on the district’s examination performance trends, covering APSE 2025 for classes V & VIII, AP state internal board exams for classes IX & XI, and CBSE results for classes X & XII for 2024–25 and previous years, was delivered by BLO (Academics) Dajo Ngomle.
