Tawang, Jun 7: The tenth day of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) was observed across Mogto, Gongkhar, Bongleng, and Kharung villages in Tawang district on Saturday, with a series of farmer-centric programmes conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tawang, in coordination with the departments of Agriculture and Horticulture and Dirang-based ICAR-NRC on Yak.

The programme saw participation from Gaon Burahs, PRI members, public leaders, and farmers. At the main event held in Mogto, KVK Tawang Senior Scientist and Head A N Tripathi outlined the objectives of VKSA and the ongoing initiatives aimed at improving agricultural practices in the region.

A technical session was conducted by NRC on Yak scientist M Jatana, who gave a demonstration on silage-making techniques. Entomologist KB Kayastha spoke about Central Sector Schemes and state-sponsored programmes available to farmers, urging them to adopt natural farming methods for improved soil health and sustainable crop yields.

Addressing the gathering, public leader of Mogto block, Thuten Tashi, highlighted the role of scientific interventions in improving farm productivity. He encouraged the organising institutions to conduct regular training and demonstration programmes in the area to promote awareness among farmers.

Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Lakshmipriya Borah delivered a session on managing bacterial wilt in chillies and explained the importance of seed treatment. Another SMS, Divya Pandey, discussed the significance of value addition in vegetables to boost farm income.

A key component of the day’s programme was the distribution of Soil Health Cards to farmers, aimed at promoting better nutrient management practices.

The event concluded with a field visit to Gongkhar village, where scientists and agricultural officers assessed crop conditions and provided hands-on advice to farmers.

Officials said the campaign reflects the ongoing commitment of KVK Tawang and allied institutions to enhance farmer knowledge and agricultural productivity through science-based interventions.
