Namsai, Jun 9: The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide pre-kharif campaign, entered its tenth day on Monday with activities held at Mimey, Nongtaw, and Nongkhon villages under the Chowkham, Namsai, and Lekang blocks, respectively.

The programme aimed to promote awareness about scientific agriculture and allied practices to improve farm income and rural livelihoods.

At Nongtaw, district agriculture officer Rupa Mannow urged farmers to adopt technology-driven and scientific farming practices. She emphasised the importance of modern techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture.

A representative from the horticulture department encouraged the cultivation of high-value crops such as watermelon and cocoa, and advised farmers to adopt intercropping methods and utilise machinery available under subsidy schemes to manage weeds effectively.

The assistant director of fisheries engaged with farmers on best practices in scientific aquaculture, including supplementary feeding and relevant government schemes.

Agriculture department officials explained the significance of soil health cards and informed farmers about various central and state-sponsored schemes aimed at improving farm output.

Experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) sensitised participants on region-specific crop varieties, soil preparation, integrated nutrient and pest management (INM and IPM), crop rotation with legumes, mulching techniques, scientific farm planning, and livestock vaccination. The benefits of crop diversification, organic and natural farming, and integrated farming systems were also highlighted.

At Mimey, scientist Theja Angami from the ICAR–Arunachal Pradesh Centre in Basar discussed low-cost polyhouse technology and encouraged vegetable cultivation using scientific methods.

Farmers interacted with the experts during the sessions, seeking advice on organic pest control, mushroom farming, mulching, and other practices to improve agricultural outcomes.
