Khonsa, June 10: As part of the ongoing Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA), the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tirap conducted an agriculture awareness programme at Old Lainwang village under Bari-Basip Circle on Tuesday.
The event, held on the 12th day of the national campaign, saw the participation of 105 farmers and was attended by local MLA Wanglam Sawin and deputy commissioner Techu Aran.
Addressing the gathering, Sawin urged the farming community to adopt modern agricultural technologies and cluster-based farming approaches to enhance productivity. He also called on KVK officials and allied departments to continue coordinated efforts to support local farmers. Emphasising the potential of mushroom cultivation, he requested the KVK to organise training and facilitate access to quality mushroom spawns.
Aran underscored the need to gradually move away from traditional jhum cultivation and focus on sustainable practices such as soil health management.
Senior scientist and head of KVK Tirap, Narendra Kumar, inaugurated the programme and outlined the objectives of VKSA, which is being observed nationwide from May 29 to June 12 to promote scientific agriculture and rural development.
Officials from the department of agriculture and horticulture, including the district horticulture officer, agriculture development officer, and subject matter specialists in soil science and fisheries, also addressed the farmers, sharing technical insights and government scheme information.
The KVK Tirap team has also conducted similar outreach programmes in villages such as Old Katang, New Paniduria, and Old Paniduria under the VKSA initiative.
