ITANAGAR, Jun 20: Education Minister PD Sona held his first review meeting with the officials of the Education department on Thursday, focusing on pressing issues within the sector.

During the meeting, officers provided updates on various challenges facing the department.

Expressing serious concern over the current state of education, Sona noted that it falls short of expectations and urged department officers to intensify their efforts to address these issues. A significant point of discussion was the delay in disbursing the Post Matric Scholarship (PMS).

Sona empathized with the students' frustrations and appealed for their patience. He informed that Rs 70 crore has been released by the Union ministry of tribal affairs, and the file is currently being processed for clearance by the finance, planning, and investment department.

"We understand the challenges our students are facing," the minister stated. "We request their patience a little longer. The scholarship funds will be disbursed immediately upon clearance from the concerned department."

Sona also emphasised the need for significant improvements within the education department and called for the cooperation of all officers and officials.
