TEZU, Jun 27: A district level training and also awareness campaign on Oil-Palm Oil cultivation for farmers and extension field functionaries under NMEO-OP was organised by the Lohit district agriculture office here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture commissioner Bidol Tayeng said Lohit has huge potential for Oil Palm cultivation in terms of geographical location, climate and topography.

Clarifying criticisms levelled against Oil Palm cultivation, he said it is totally safe to cultivate oil palm.

Tayeng requested the district agriculture officer to arrange exposure tours for farmers, so that they can have first-hand understanding of the nuances and benefits of oil palm cultivation.

He said that oil palm cultivation would improve the economic status of the farmers.

Lohit deputy commissioner Shashvat Saurabh said there is a need to increase the area under oil palm cultivation in the district.

He urged the farmers to take full benefit of the training and clear all their doubts related to oil palm cultivation.

Oil Palm state nodal officer TD Neckhom presented a brief overview of the status of oil palm cultivation in the state.

Lohit district agriculture officer N Sumyan also spoke.

As part of the training, various technical sessions on importance and prospects of oil palm cultivation, packaging, and experiences were shared.

Lohit zilla parishad chairperson Dasalu Krisikro, Tezu zilla parishad member Balong Tindya, Sunpura zilla parishad member Angenlu Minin Chaitom, Heads of Offices, progressive farmers, among others attended the event.
