BORDUMSA, Jun 28: The Singpho Women Organisation (SWO), led by its president Pisilu Singpho and secretary general Pinna Kitnal M Singpho, has strongly condemned the recent incident of ragging at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) here.

The incident, involving senior students allegedly harassing Class VIII students, prompted swift action from SWO officials during their visit to the school premises.

During their interaction with JNV Bordumsa principal Rajeev Ranjan, the SWO delegation learned that five seniors implicated in the incident have been rusticated from the school. Expressing serious concern over the incident, the SWO members highlighted systemic issues, including the absence of dedicated hostel wardens and inadequate counseling services.

"The safety and well-being of students are paramount, and such incidents cannot be tolerated," said SWO president Pisilu Singpho while adding that immediate steps are necessary to prevent such occurrences and ensure a safe learning environment."

The SWO team also noted deficiencies in school infrastructure, including insufficient boundary walls and poorly maintained dormitories.

They emphasized the urgent need for additional hostel facilities, enhanced security measures, and the appointment of qualified counselors.

"We urge the Parent Teacher Council (PTC) to take proactive measures to improve governance and ensure student safety," said secretary general Pinna Kitnal M Singpho.

Effective involvement of the local community and stringent anti-bullying policies are essential, she said.

Later, the SWO delegation met with Bordumsa ADC Oling Lego to discuss their observations and recommendations. ADC Lego assured them of prompt action, including the formation of an inquiry committee to address the issues raised.

With a student body of over 530, including 290 girls, JNV Bordumsa serves as a vital educational institution for underprivileged children in Changlang district.

SWO stressed that while educational opportunities are crucial, student safety must remain a top priority.
