ITANAGAR, July 2: Advisor to Power Minister Jikke Tako on Tuesday said that the state government and the department will initiate steps to control power theft in the state.

Tako, who assumed charge on Tuesday, said Arunachal is a power surplus state but due to power theft and lack of proper power distribution, the state is acute shortage of power thus the state is facing frequent power cuts.

He said stringent measures against violators will be initiated.

Tako, who represents the Tali assembly constituency, said the power distribution system will also be reviewed in the coming days.

He said the department will also discuss the power consumption and revenue model in a coordination meeting soon.

Later in the day, the advisor along with officials visited Panchali sub-station here.

The Power sub-station is on the verge of collapsing due to landslides triggered by incessant rain and encroachment by private individuals.

He said the department will lodge an FIR against the encroachers and strict action will be taken.

Tako said that the department will conduct awareness among the citizens on proper use of power.
