ITANAGAR, Jul 9: Following the direction of Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex, Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta, District Transport Officer (DTO) Techi Tukap and his team conducted a drive to remove unattended vehicles parked haphazardly along NH-415 and sector roads, obstructing the free flow of traffic.

The DTO had previously issued a notice on June 25, directing vehicle owners to remove their vehicles from the roads within seven days. While some owners complied, those who did not were directed to remove their vehicles on the spot. A few unattended off-road vehicles were subsequently towed, seized, and kept at the District Transport Office Complex Inter State Truck Terminal (ISTT) Lekhi under section 201 of the CMV Act 1988, the DTO informed.

During the drive, a total of 28 vehicles were removed from the roads, with 4 unclaimed vehicles towed and seized, currently stored at the DTO office complex. Vehicle owners have been requested to report to the DTO office in Lekhi to claim their vehicles; otherwise, the vehicles will be auctioned following official procedures.

The deputy commissioner has repeatedly appealed to residents not to park their vehicles haphazardly, as it obstructs traffic flow, poses safety hazards for drivers and pedestrians, increases the risk of accidents, and diminishes the city's aesthetic beauty. She informed that the drive will continue in the coming days.
