PASIGHAT, Jul 23: East Siang deputy commissioner Tayi Taggu and superintendent of police Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal visited three drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers in the Ruksin and Oyan areas on Tuesday. The officials interacted with the inmates and assessed their health and well-being.
Taggu stated that the purpose of the visit was to review the facilities provided to the inmates at these centers.
Yesterday, eleven staff members of the Serene Life Foundation Rehabilitation Centre in Pasighat were arrested following the death of an inmate, 21-year-old Olip Litin Mukherjee, who was allegedly beaten to death by the centre's staff.
During today's visit, the DC instructed the authorities to maintain cleanliness to ensure a healthy environment. Taggu emphasized the importance of collective efforts to eradicate the social evil of drugs and raise awareness about their ill effects. He highlighted the need to harness the energy of the youth positively to reintegrate them into society and prevent relapses. Taggu noted that these centers should act as boons for affected youths, providing counseling and support for their mainstream integration.
Singhal reviewed the safety and security measures for the inmates and the infrastructure. He advised the management to maximize skilling opportunities and placements for the youth, enabling them to earn their livelihood with dignity.
DMO Dr K Perme provided health tips and stressed the importance of hygiene, yoga, and regular physical activities.
