RONO HILLS, Aug 12: National Library Day was observed on Monday at the Central Library of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr S R Ranganathan, a pioneer in library science.
In his address, Librarian Dr S K Jena highlighted the profound impact of Dr Ranganathan’s work, emphasizing his role as the father of modern library science.
Dr Ranganathan, an esteemed Indian mathematician, is renowned for his creation of the Colon Classification system and the Classified Catalogue Code, both of which have been instrumental in shaping library practices.
Dr Jena urged library staff to draw inspiration from Dr Ranganathan's legacy and continue to advance the field of library science.
“Dr Ranganathan’s contributions have been pivotal in elevating the importance of library science and expanding its reach across India,” he said.
