Itanagar, Aug 16: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh with patriotic zeal and fervour on Thursday.

In Aalo, Law and Justice minister Kento Jini hoisted the national flag at Aalo government higher secondary school ground here.

Paying homage to freedom fighters, he remembered their supreme sacrifices and immense contribution in the nation’s development and growth.

On the occasion, Jini, who is also the local MLA, highlighted the initiatives undertaken by the state government to usher in development.

He disclosed that the state under the leadership of chief minister Pema Khandu has implemented several schemes for the welfare of the people.

Many social security schemes have been implemented for the widows, old-age pension, Indira Gandhi Disability Pension scheme, etc., he said.

The minister disclosed that the state government has sanctioned crores of rupees to make Viksit Arunachal, in line with the Viksit Bharat.

The state government has announced 2024 as the ‘Year of the Youth’ and many subsidized schemes have been implemented for the youth of the state, he said, adding that the state government will also conduct events for youth in five basins of the state.

The minister disclosed that Aalo general hospital has been ranked no 1 among the zonal hospitals in the state. The hospital is equipped with the latest technology and equipment like CT Scan machine, Ultrasonography, dialysis machine, etc.

He appealed to the people to avail the facilities provided by the government.

Jini also appealed to the general public of Aalo to help the administration in making Aalo, a beautiful and vibrant town.

On the occasion, West Siang deputy commissioner Mamu hage gave away commendation certificates, medals and trophies to winners of various games and sports, achievers and government officials.

Other highlights included cultural display, exhibition stalls, band display by the Army and patriotic dances by students from various schools.

In Basar, MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi hoisted the national flag at Todak Basar memorial stadium here.

In her maiden I-Day speech, the MLA urged all to uphold the spirit of unity and compassion, and work together to build a better and brighter future.

Later, she inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by various government departments showcasing their activities, products and services.

The day was marked by march past, patriotic songs and dances, and drills by students from various schools.

Later, a friendly Tug-of-war competition was held between MLA’s XI vs DC’s XI, which was won by MLA’s XI.

In Boleng, Panchayati Raj & Rural Development minister Ojing Tasing highlighted the notable achievements of various government departments in the district, spanning multiple sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

He commended the efforts of government officials, public representatives, and citizens who have contributed to the district's progress.

Tasing encouraged the public to avail benefits of schemes launched by the government, emphasizing the importance of inclusive growth and development.

On the occasion, the minister launched three new state transport services, aiming to enhance connectivity and facilitate easy access to essential services. These services include Boleng to Itanagar (alternate days), Boleng to Suple (daily), and Riga to Aalo via Boleng and Pangin (daily), which are expected to boost economic activities and improve the overall quality of life in the region.

In Bomdila, West Kameng zilla parishad chairperson Karma Thongdok hoisted the national flag at Buddha Stadium here.

On the occasion, the ZPC highlighted the achievements and development attained by the district.

Expressing concern over the growing issue of narcotics consumption, he appealed to the public, especially the youth, to stay away from such substances. Thongdok further emphasized the importance of environmental conservation, urging everyone to stop using single-use plastic items in line with the government's nationwide ban.

The celebration included various sports competitions, and academic toppers, winners of literary and sports competitions, the best cultural troupe, best parade contingents, and best exhibition stalls were recognized and awarded.

The event also marked the launch of the "Two Bins, Environment Wins" campaign. Under this initiative, residents who bring segregated waste (biodegradable and non-biodegradable) will receive 1 kg of rice as a reward from the District Urban Development Agency.

In Daporijo, IPR & Printing minister Nyato Dukam hoisted the national flag at the Rijo Mini Outdoor Stadium here.

Paying tributes to freedom fighters, Dukam urged the people to honor their legacy by fostering a spirit of unity and compassion, emphasizing the importance of standing by one another in times of need and striving together towards a future that is bright, inclusive, and just.

He acknowledged the contributions of pioneering figures in Upper Subansiri district across various fields, including politics, entrepreneurship, culture etc.

The minister praised chief minister Pema Khandu for steering the state towards holistic development, encompassing sectors like health, education, connectivity, and rural self-reliance.

He noted that while substantial progress has been made, it is merely the beginning of a larger journey. He called upon the community to look beyond individual interests and work collectively towards the comprehensive development of society through cooperation and shared responsibility.

Dukam assured the public that the state government, in collaboration with the district administration, is committed to transforming Upper Subansiri into a vibrant and progressive district.

The I-Day celebration was also attended by Daporijo MLA Taniya Soki, Upper Subansiri deputy commissioner Tasso Gambo and others.

Other highlights included march past, cultural performances by students, exhibition stalls and distribution of prizes and commendation certificates.

In Deomali, DoTCL minister Wangki Lowang highlighted the developmental initiatives undertaken by the central and state government.

He appealed to the public to take advantage of AtmaNirbhar schemes for self-sufficiency and growth.

The minister advised the youth to stay away from drugs and encouraged the community to actively combat the drug menace.

The day was marked by patriotic dances and songs by students from various schools, exhibition of items, etc.

In Doimukh, the Rajiv Gandhi University also celebrated the I-Day in the spirit of patriotism and unity.

The I-Day celebrations started with a floral tribute to the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle.

RGU vice-chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, who hoisted the national flag, spoke about the various milestones RGU has accomplished over the past six years. He emphasized the university's recognition as a green campus, a testament to its commitment to environmental sustainability. Additionally, he highlighted the university's prestigious ‘A’ grade status and NEP 2020 implementation reflecting excellence in academic and administrative performance.

Prof Kushwaha further discussed the infrastructural developments at the varsity, emphasizing how these improvements are enhancing the institution’s overall capabilities. He urged all employees to remain dedicated and punctual, stressing the importance of these values in maintaining the university's high standards.

Additionally, he mentioned the university's attainment of ISO certification, marking another milestone in its pursuit of quality and excellence.

Also present were registrar Dr NT Rikam, finance officer Prof Otem Padung, deans of various faculties, faculty members, students and non-teaching staff.

In Itanagar, the BJP Arunachal Pradesh also celebrated the 78th Independence Day at State BJP HQs here.

BJP state president in-charge Tarh Tarak hoisted the national flag in presence of state general secretary Nalong Mize, treasurer Viney Kumar Gupta, SODs, morcha heads and party karyakartas.

Tarak praised the people of the state for taking part in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign throughout the state with dedication and patriotism.

He said it was a powerful testament to our collective spirit and national pride.

In Lemmi, Health and Family Welfare minister Biyuram Wahge unfurled the national flag and paid tribute to heroes, who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.

Wahge, on the occasion, highlighted the state government’s achievement in various sectors and said that the state government will establish a cancer hospital at Midpu soon.

He also promised complete electrification of all villages in Pakke Kessang district.

The minister appealed to the people to commercialize their agri-horti products to double their income.

Expressing concern over the decline in the use of mother tongue, he appealed to the people to preserve the local dialect and maximize its use.

The celebration was marked by colourful cultural displays, PT displays and patriotic songs besides exhibition stalls set up by government departments.

A friendly football match was also played between Minister’s XI vs DC’s XI.

In Kamba, MLA Pesi Jilen hoisted the national flag at the general ground here.

In his speech, the MLA paid tribute to the freedom fighters. He appealed to the people to contribute in making Arunachal Pradesh in general and West Siang in particular, a better place.

He said that he will accord top priority to the education and health sectors.

On the occasion, the MLA felicitated achievers Katum Tato, who was ranked 4th in the state and for securing a seat in the prestigious IIT Jodhpur, Jumsi Kami and Deson Poyom for securing 4th and 17th rank respectively in NEER 2024.

In Khonsa, the I-Day was celebrated at Nehru Stadium here where Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin hoisted the national flag.

In his address, the MLA highlighted the improvements in infrastructure during his decade-long service as a public representative.

He said the water supply project for Khonsa town is likely to be completed soon and it will resolve the water crisis soon.

He also highlighted the progress in the construction of the Nehru Stadium.

The MLA lauded the Tirap district administration, police, Assam Rifles, CRPF for their efforts in promoting development and maintaining peace.

The celebration featured the inauguration of stalls, patriotic dances, and songs performed by various tribes and schools, adding vibrancy to the day.

The I-Day was also celebrated in Lazu, Borduria, Dadam, Soha and Bari-Basip.

In Longding, MLA Thangwang Wangham hoisted the tricolour and took salute of the marching contingents.

In his speech, Wangham said the construction of a police station for Pumao circle will be initiated soon.

Highlighting the need for women police station at Longding, proper road connectivity to Pumao circle HQ and Arunachal-Nagaland inter-state boundary near Chatting village, he instructed heads of work departments to initiate steps while assuring of support.

He also assured to cooperate in the successful execution of projects initiated by former MLA Tanpho Wangnaw.

The celebration was marked by felicitation of unsung heroes, who sacrificed their lives during the Nginu Massacre in 1875, exhibition stalls, march past, and cultural display.

In Naharlagun, the All India Malayalee Association (AIMA), Arunachal Pradesh Unit organised a canvas painting programme on the theme, "Colour our Nation" at St Mary's Public School, Naharlagun, as a part of 78th Independence Day celebrations.

The event brought together children from different schools to create paintings on canvas depicting memories of freedom fighters, and the unity and vibrant spirit of our nation.

The artistic expressions not only celebrate India's independence but also emphasize the collective efforts of all citizens in building a harmonious and prosperous nation.

The canvas paintings will be exhibited at the next national general conference of AIMA.

In Namsai, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein hoisted the national flag at the general ground here.

Paying tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs, Mein emphasized their pivotal role in inspiring the nation’s aspirations for development by 2047, as outlined in the Amrit Kaal vision.

He highlighted the significance of national campaigns like 'Har Ghar Tiranga' to instill patriotism and 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' for promoting environmental responsibility.

Mein emphasized the transformative impact of the motto ’Reform, Transform, and Perform’ on the state’s fiscal growth, particularly in capital expenditure, which has strengthened its economy. He noted significant advancements in poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, and connectivity, including the operational Donyi Polo Airport and the expansion of National Highways.

The deputy chief minister also highlighted the substantial investments in education and healthcare, citing the implementation of the New Education Policy, the establishment of Arunachal Pradesh State University, and upgradation of district hospitals across the state with an investment of Rs 450 crore. He also underlined women's empowerment initiatives, including self-help groups and financial schemes, as essential drivers of gender equality.

He also reiterated the state’s commitment to agriculture, youth empowerment, and entrepreneurship, designating 2024 as the "Year of Youth." He called for the protection of natural resources in alignment with the state's dedication to sustainable development.

The deputy chief minister, later inaugurated the exhibition stalls put up by government departments, NGOs, SHGs, schools and colleges.

Later, Mein attended the closing ceremony of the inaugural United Brotherhood Cup football tournament at Manmow organised by United Brotherhood Club on the theme, ‘Unity Through Sports’

He lauded the organisers and their efforts to unite the people of the district through football in its fight against drug menace.

The deputy chief minister said that such events guide the youth towards a brighter, drug-free future, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering talent and ensuring a prosperous tomorrow for the state.

On the state’s sports infrastructure, Mein said today the state boasts advanced infrastructure including sports academies at Itanagar and another one is coming up at Miao, with the goal of nurturing young talent.

He stressed the importance of steering youth away from drugs and towards a positive future through sports and education.

The deputy chief minister highlighted that this year’s budget reflects a strong commitment to sports and education, ensuring that youth are equipped for success.

He said that the government is developing three stadiums in the district, among which one will be in Chongkham and is expected to be completed by year end. The others are coming up at Namsai circle and APL ground. Together, they will serve as training hubs for the athletes of the region.

Mein expressed his aspiration for Arunachal athletes to represent the state in national and international events while assuring government support in realizing their full potential.

In Nikte, Aalo West MLA Topin Ete hoisted the national flag and paid tributes to the freedom fighters and the architects of the country.

In his maiden I-Day speech, Ete said it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold nationalism and brotherhood.

He also urged people to rededicate themselves towards the service of our state.

Later, the MLA participated in a tree plantation drive themed, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ organised by Kodum circle officer Giogi Rimi.

In Oyan, students from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV), Oyan participated in the national and state level I-Day celebrations on Thursday.

The school’s exceptional Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) performance earned three students namely Michang Nyodu, Mitem Yalik and Doshi Kakki- to attend the I-Day event at New Delhi as special guests.

The school’s band party performed at I-Day celebrations at IG Park, Itanagar, garnering appreciation from chief minister Pema Khandu.

The chief minister personally commended the team and presented them with a memento in recognition of their outstanding display.

Students from the school also took part in march past, traditional songs and dances and display dumbbells, lezim drill and yoga at Sille ground.

Their performances not only highlighted the rich cultural heritage of our state but also underscored the school’s commitment to holistic education.

In Pasighat, MLA Tapi Darang hoisted the tricolour and inspected the marching contingents led by parade commander inspector Samuel Pertin at Pasighat outdoor stadium here.

In his maiden I-Day speech, Darang asserted that all central and state sponsored flagship programs were being implemented in true spirit in the district.

He called upon all government functionaries to work with full commitment in order to provide an efficient, people-friendly, transparent and accountable administration.

The MLA congratulated the people for their contributions towards a safe, harmonious and equitable society.

He urged the citizens to maintain unity and integrity preserving the core values of age-old Indian heritage and expressed his pride in the patriotic spirit, zeal and cooperation of the people of East Siang district in development processes.

On the occasion, the MLA highlighted various achievements of the government departments and threw lights on visible local infrastructural development including modernization of Pasighat township, electricity, education, agriculture and health sectors, etc.

The I-Day was also celebrated in Mebo in East Siang district. MLA Oken Tayeng paid tribute to the martyrs and recalled their valour and sacrifices.

In Pangin, Kebang zilla parishad member Topi Jerang hoisted the national flag and appealed to the younger generation to shun drugs and substance abuse and emphasized education and sports to become contributing citizens.

In Ruksin, Lok Sabha member Tapir Gao hoisted the national flag at the general ground here.

On the occasion, he congratulated the people for celebrating India’s 78th independence in a befitting manner and paid tributes to the freedom fighters recounting the contributions.

The MP, in his address, briefed about the various ongoing developmental works and achievement accelerated by development agencies in the subdivision and also highlighted some future prospects and plans chalked out for welfare of the people.

MLA Ninong Ering, Ruksin ADC Kiran Ningo, HoDs and a host of officers attended the celebrations.

In Rumgong, MLA Talem Taboh hoisted the national flag and distributed appointment orders and certificates to newly appointed head gaon buras and gaon buras.

In Sagalee, MLA Ratu Techi hoisted the national flag at the general ground here.

Paying tribute to the freedom fighters, the MLA called upon all the denizens to uphold the values and patriotism of our late leaders.

Sharing his vision for the development of Sagalee constituency, Techi said his vision for development of Sagalee constituency has been vividly planned for the next 10 years to transform the constituency into a model region characterized by sustainable development, inclusive growth and enhanced quality of life for all citizens over the next decade.

Seeking cooperation from all including government officials and panchayat leaders, Techi called for periodic review of the vision and make adjustments based on the progress made and emerging needs.

Announcing the launch of the “MLA Achievers Award” to encourage and support the youths of the constituency both in academics and sports, he said that individuals who clear UPSC prelims will be given a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh and those clearing APCCSE prelims, a sum of Rs 50, 000.

The MLA also announced financial incentives for individuals excelling in academics and in national and international sports events.

In Tarasso, Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek hoisted the national flag at Taraso general ground.

Paying tributes to the freedom fighters, the MLA said that ‘their sacrifices are a reminder that our independence is a priceless gift, one that must be cherished and safeguarded’.

“As we celebrate this day, let us also reflect on our responsibilities as citizens of this great nation and contribute positively to our society and to build a nation that is inclusive, prosperous and peaceful,” he said.

Outlining his vision for improving the quality of life in the rural areas through systematic assessment, improvement in infrastructure and services, Vivek sought cooperation and coordination from all the government employees, panchayat leaders and the general public.

Other attractions of the day included a girls band display by the VKV Balijan team, cultural programs by various schools and NGOs and exhibition stalls by government departments and SHGs.

In Tawang, MLA Namgey Tsering hoisted the national flag at the general parade ground here.

In his address, Tsering paid tribute to freedom fighters for the sacrifices and extended gratitude to border guarding security forces.

He praised the doctors, teachers, engineers and other government officials for their services in the socio-economic development of the district.

The MLA also remembered Major Bob Khating for his contribution to Tawang.

Commending the police for apprehending drug peddlers active in the district, Tsering appealed to the general public to come forward and join forces to fight the drug menace.

Since the elections are over, we should forget our political differences and work together for the development of society, he said.

Assuring to work for the people, he reiterated his commitment to arrange annual pilgrimage for senior citizens.

Jawans of the Indian Army, SSB, NCC cadets, Scouts & Guides and Cub Bulbuls participated in march past.

Patriotic dances and songs, traditional cultural programs added colour to the celebrations.

Later, the final match of the Independence Day Cup Football tournament was played between Monyul FC against defending champion D-Club at Gyalwa Tsangyang Gyatso high-altitude stadium.

In a topsy-turvy encounter, D-Club retained its title by defeating Monyul FC by 1-0 goal in a penalty shootout.

In Tato, Education minister Pasang Dorjee Sona paid tribute to freedom fighters, who lost their lives during India’s freedom struggle.

On the occasion, the minister launched the photography, logo and tagline competition and social media handles of Swadesh Darshan 2.0.

A flagship scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism, the Swadesh Darshan scheme was launched in 2014-15 and it provides financial assistance to state governments and UT administration for development of tourism infrastructure.

In 2022, the ministry revamped the scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 to develop sustainable and responsible destinations with a tourist and destination centric approach.

The strategic objectives of the scheme are to enhance the contribution of tourism to the local economy, create jobs including self-employment for local communities, enhance skills of local youth in tourism and hospitality, increase private investment in tourism and hospitality, and preserve and enhance local culture and natural resources.

Sona disclosed that Arunachal Pradesh has been selected as a key state to benefit from this initiative with Mechukha in Shi-Yomi district and Nacho in Upper Subansiri district as prime destination under the scheme.

For the first iteration of Swadesh Darshan 2.0, two significant projects have been identified for Mechukha namely, Mechukha cultural haat and Mechukha adventure park.

In Tezu, MLA Dr Mohesh Chai highlighted various schemes the state government has taken up for the development of the state.

Stating that he is committed to ensure a ‘Viksit Tezu-Sunpura’, the MLA said flood protection is one of the top most priority and efforts are being made in this regard.

Dr Chai said the water treatment plants of the township area will be revamped very soon, so that people get potable water.

He disclosed that a new Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya will be established in the district soon.

Speaking on health sector, the MLA said the district zonal hospital will be equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment and a CT scan machine will be installed soon.

In order to provide an alternative and sustainable source of livelihood, the tourism sector will be focused on, he added.

The MLA, on the occasion, announced financial incentives of Rs 50,000 and Rs 2 lakhs to students from the Mishmi community, who clear APPSC and UPSC prelims respectively.

The Tezu unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), under its Student For Seva (SFS) initiative, organized a voluntary blood donation camp at zonal general hospital on Friday.

Altogether 24 units of blood were collected in the camp, organised to pay tribute to the freedom fighters, who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

SFS state convener, Yage Tayeng highlighted the numerous health benefits and life-saving impact of blood donation.

In Yomcha, zilla parishad member Babom Romin hoisted the tricolour.

Romin appealed to the people to work together for the best interest of the area and the people without political bias.

He also urged the students to refrain from indulging in drugs and other narcotics and asked them to focus on their studies.

In Yingkiong, MLA Alo Libang hoisted the national flag at the general ground here.

In his address, Libang paid tribute to the martyrs, saying this day reminds us of the great sacrifices made by innumerable freedom fighters for the freedom of our country.

He informed about the state government’s ‘Viksit Arunachal @ 2047’ initiative and highlighted its main objectives.

The MLA said that the government is laying emphasis on prioritizing the Agriculture, Horticulture, and tourism sector for sustainable growth.

“Upper Siang has huge potential for such developmental activities and if we tap it properly then it will play a significant role in enhancing the economy of the district,” he said.

On the occasion, Upper Siang deputy commissioner Hage Lailang and SP Token Saring felicitated the government employees, CBSE toppers and best performing schools.

The I-Day was also celebrated in Tuting.

In Yupia, Papum Pare deputy commissioner Jiken Bomjen hoisted the tricolour.

In his address, the DC gave a clarion call to the people to create a drug-free India, empowering the youth to lead healthier and more productive lives.

He also urged all to join the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ and actively participate at the ground level activities to make it a success.

Highlighting the government’s will to resolve the Assam-Arunachal boundary issues amicably, Bomjen said the government has reconstituted the regional committee in July by inducting new members to continue with the efforts of the previous committee for a permanent solution to the vexed issue.

He said the new committee at the initiative of MLA Nabam Vivek, during a preliminary meeting passed instructions to all border administrative officers to conduct ground assessment in consultation with the village elders, community leaders, panchayat leaders and locals by this month.

The DC, in his speech, also highlighted the status of various infrastructural and welfare projects under the Education, road connectivity, health, Power, Agriculture and Horticulture sectors, in the district.

The DC also presented commendation certificates to government employees for their exemplary dedication towards their work.
