ZIRO, Aug 31: Saint Claret College, Ziro (SCCZ), hosted its annual Freshers’ Meet on Saturday, welcoming the new batch of students with a spirited event themed “Journey to Excellence.”

The occasion, a tradition at the college, was characterized by vibrant displays of talent, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of community, setting a positive tone for the academic year ahead.

The event featured several rounds where the freshers showcased their talents, personalities, and quick-thinking abilities. After a competitive process, Techi Gomb from the Department of Mass Communication and Biri Mamu from the Department of Political Science were awarded the titles of Mr and Ms Fresher 2023, respectively.

In his address, principal Dr Father Allwyn Mendoz emphasized the significance of diligence and integrity in academics. He reminded the students that their efforts in their studies would directly influence their success, echoing the proverb, "As you sow, so shall you reap.” He encouraged the new students to remain committed and hardworking, assuring them that such dedication would lead to excellence.

Mendoz also reiterated the college’s strict stance against the use of contraband substances, urging students to focus on their personal growth and development instead.

Assistant professor Dr Sonisha R Syiem welcomed the freshers on behalf of the management, staff, and seniors. She encouraged the newcomers to embrace qualities such as availability, believability, adaptability, and determination as they embark on their academic journey.

Syiem highlighted the importance of setting priorities, self-belief, and perseverance, urging the students to make the most of the opportunities available on campus and to never give up on their dreams.

The highlight of the event was a talent show where the freshers showcased their skills in singing, rapping, and dancing. The diverse performances thrilled the audience, reflecting the varied backgrounds and talents of the new students. The senior students also performed lively programs, which were met with enthusiastic applause and cheers from the crowd.
