PASIGHAT, Aug 31: In response to the recent tragic incident involving the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, a consultative meeting on the security audit of health facilities was convened on Friday evening. The meeting, chaired by deputy commissioner Tayi Taggu, took place at the conference hall of the DC Office in Pasighat.

The meeting saw the participation of superintendent of police Dr SK Singhal, additional superintendent of police Pankaj Lamba, deputy superintendent of police Ayup Boko, joint director of health services Dr T Tali, district medical officer Dr K Perme, and officers in charge of local police stations, fire brigade, and medical officers in charge of CHCs, PHCs, and private hospitals in East Siang district.

In his opening remarks, Taggu condemned the heinous crime and emphasized the importance of respecting gender equality and femininity. He instructed the DMO, ADC, and all medical officers in charge to initiate relevant Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities in their respective areas to raise awareness about violence against health workers.

Singhal proposed several measures to enhance security, including the establishment of a police outpost at BPGH Pasighat, strategic deployment of watchmen at private hospitals, and conducting character and antecedent verifications for individuals employed in healthcare facilities.

Earlier, Perme welcomed the participants and outlined the objectives of the meeting. He provided an overview of the Arunachal Pradesh Medical Service Personnel and Medical Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss of Property) Act 2019 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act 2013.

The security audit of health facilities across the district is scheduled to commence tomorrow.
