ITANAGAR, Sep 5: Governor KT Parnaik on Thursday launched a book titled, ‘Kuj Nyishi Agam Chingnya Tuj’ (Let’s Learn Nyishi Language) at the Raj Bhavan here.

The book, a tri-lingual orthography (Roman, Hindi, and Nyishi) and bi-lingual primer with illustrations, has been authored by Prof Nabam Nakha Hina from the Department of Political Science, Rajiv Gandhi University.

In his address, Parnaik congratulated Prof Hina, acknowledging the dedication and passion required to write a book, particularly in a local language. He emphasized the importance of such efforts in preserving and promoting the linguistic heritage of the Nyishi community, ensuring the language continues to evolve and thrive.

Highlighting the cultural and emotional depth of local languages, the governor stated, “Our local language carries within it the history, values, and emotions of our people. It is through our language that we express our thoughts, share experiences, and connect on a deeper level.”

He urged community leaders to ensure that books like ‘Kuj Nyishi Agam Chingnya Tuj’ reach every household so that children can learn, practice, and promote the language.

Parnaik also emphasized the transformative power of books, describing them as reflections of society that capture the hopes, struggles, and dreams of the people. He encouraged future writers to follow Prof. Hina’s example and contribute to the preservation of local languages through their writings.

The event saw the participation of RGU vice-chancellor Prof Saket Kushwaha, registrar Dr Nabam Tadar Rikam, Nyishi Elite Society president Prof Tana Showren, RGU associate professor Dr Jamuna Bini and various community leaders from the Nyishi Elite Society, Nabam Welfare Society, Indigenous Faith & Cultural Society, and Nyishi Nyidung Mangjang Rallung.
