ITANAGAR, Nov 2: Police under Operation Dawn apprehended an interstate drug peddler and seized heroin in a late-night operation spanning Assam and Arunachal Pradesh on Friday.
Acting on reliable information about drug trafficking from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh via a two-wheeler, a police team from Banderdewa police station initiated an alert.
The suspect evaded an initial interception attempt at the Banderdewa check gate, proceeding toward Naharlagun.
However, in a swift pursuit led by Banderdewa police station officer-in-charge inspector Kipa Hamak and his team ASI L P Mema and constables T Bomdom and R Tsering under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo, the suspect was finally apprehended in Borum village.
The accused, identified as Babul Islam (38), a resident of Bihpuria in Lakhimpur district, Assam, was found with a soap case containing heroin weighing 13.46 grams.
“A case Under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act has been registered at Banderdewa police station and the accused is currently in custody,” SP Gambo said, while adding that further investigations are underway.
