Itanagar, Jan 21: The All-Tagin Students' Union (ATSU) has alleged nepotism and irregularities in the player selection process for the 38th National Badminton Games of India, accusing the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) of unfairly excluding a deserving player, Tai Doyom.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the union demanded immediate intervention to address the alleged discrepancies and warned of filing a writ petition against ASBA if corrective measures are not taken.

Addressing reporters at the Arunachal Press Club here, ATSU general secretary Vijay Dobin claimed that ASBA had shown favoritism by selecting players with limited recent playing experience while sidelining Doyom, who has an impressive record of achievements in badminton.

Refuting ASBA’s claims regarding Doyom's age and eligibility, Dobin asserted that the player had submitted all necessary documents and had applied for age rectification through the Badminton Association of India (BAI).

Doyom, expressing his dissatisfaction, alleged bias in the selection process, stating that ASBA’s actions undermined fair play by favoring less experienced players.

ATSU has called for a comprehensive investigation into the matter and urged the government to ensure a transparent and fair selection process, emphasizing the importance of representing Arunachal Pradesh equitably in national sporting events.
