Mechukha, Jan 22: A comprehensive meeting of tourism stakeholders, homestay owners, and accommodation units was convened at the additional deputy commissioner's (ADC) office here on Wednesday.
The meeting, chaired by ADC Tana Yaho focused on discussing strategies for the development and sustainable management of tourism in the region.
Welcoming the participants, tourism information officer Duyir Buni Yedi highlighted the primary objective of the meeting—to engage tourism stakeholders in fostering responsible tourism practices.
The session included a presentation on Arunachal Tourism, homestay initiatives, permit regulations, and flagship schemes of the department of tourism.
Yedi urged homestay owners to educate tourists, particularly trekkers, on waste management and environmental responsibility.
Head Constable Tabu Pusang of the Arunachal Pradesh Police stressed the importance of timely submission of Protected Area Permit (PAP) details to ensure seamless tourism operations.
Adding cultural depth to the discussion, Cheden Goiba, general secretary of the Nehnang Cultural Development Society (NCDS), emphasized preserving Mechukha’s rich cultural heritage. He called on homestay owners to promote local traditions, cuisine, and history to enhance the visitor experience.
An open forum allowed stakeholders to voice concerns and seek clarifications on permits and other operational matters.
In her closing address, ADC Yaho underscored the need for organized homestay operations and announced the formation of a homestay committee. The committee, in coordination with the district administration, will work to maintain cleanliness, streamline operations, and provide essential information to tourists.
Yaho also proposed evening cultural events, similar to the existing Gorchey initiative, which showcases traditional Memba dance every Wednesday at Mechukha’s main market. These cultural evenings, held twice a week, aim to enhance the cultural experience for visitors.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to collaborate on sustainable tourism practices and establish Mechukha as a premier tourist destination in India.
