Itanagar, Jan 22: Governor K T Parnaik on Wednesday emphasized that the Puroik community in the state must start working with a changed mind-set and attitude, for development.
The governor said this when Chairman of the Autonomous Puroik Welfare Board, Kashok Solung along with members called on him at Raj Bhavan here.
Parnaik said that they (Puroik) must work hard and with determination.
“If you run away from challenges, no one will come to your aid. You must rely on yourself,” he said.
The chairman briefed the governor about the welfare board and the challenges of the community.
The governor, advised the welfare board members to focus on ensuring that every member of the community is registered and avail benefits from the central and state governments' welfare programmes and schemes.
He also stressed on education and said that the elders and youth of the community must make sure that every child goes to school and completes their education.
Parnaik, while assuring to initiate welfare measures in the best interest of the community, advised the Puroik members to preserve their indigenous identity while progressing with time. He underscored that they must join the mainstream, settle down, stand united and stand for them.
