Naharlagun, Jan 27: The Banderdewa police arrested two individuals during a routine check at the Banderdewa Check Gate on Sunday, seizing 9.46 grams of suspected heroin. The operation, part of “Operation Dawn 2.0,” was conducted under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo.

The police team, comprising sub-inspectors Dekey Tayum & Koj Tada, and head constable Tade Bomdom, detained the suspects and recovered seven vials of suspected heroin during a body search conducted in the presence of independent witnesses.

A case has been registered under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Banderdewa Police Station. The accused have been identified as Prakash Charabarty (27), a resident of Dongibil village in Lakhimpur district, and Takam Golo (24), a resident of Itanagar.

In related operations earlier on Saturday, police arrested four suspected drug peddlers, including a husband-wife duo, in separate incidents at Naharlagun and Nirjuli. Contraband drugs were seized during these operations.

Naharlagun superintendent of police, Mihin Gambo, reaffirmed the police's commitment to combating drug-related crimes and ensuring the safety of the community. The series of arrests marks continued efforts under the Operation Dawn initiative to tackle the drug menace in the region.
