YUPIA, Jan 30: A shocking case of violence among schoolchildren has led to the tragic death of a Class V student, Kino Abo, who succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal assault by a classmate. The incident occurred on January 28 when the victim was returning home from private tuition classes at Larh Layer Public School in Yupia.
According to reports, Abo was rushed to TRIHMS Hospital the same evening and later referred to a medical facility in Dibrugarh for further treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on the morning of January 29.
Speaking to this daily, the victim’s brother, Kino Tufan, revealed that Abo had suffered severe trauma, including scalp and jaw fractures, dislocated hands, and broken teeth. Tufan also suggested that the extent of the injuries indicated the possible involvement of more than one person in the attack.
However, he assured that the family would fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation and urged the accused’s family to do the same.
Papum Pare superintendent of police (SP), Taru Gussar, stated that preliminary investigations indicate that the assault was triggered by a financial dispute between the students.
In a statement to the police, the accused alleged that the victim had frequently extorted money from him at school, which caused him mental distress and resentment. He admitted to having premeditated the attack, the SP said.
The authorities are currently awaiting the post-mortem report, and the investigation team is exploring all possible angles to ensure justice for the victim’s family, he added.
The Child in Conflict with Law (CCWL), the accused in this case, was presented before the Principal Magistrate of the Juvenile Justice Board, Capital Complex, Yupia, on January 29. The court has remanded the minor to the Juvenile Remand Home in Pasighat for two days as legal proceedings continue.
