Itanagar, Jan 31: The Capital Police has urged citizens to disregard viral social media messages claiming the existence of a drug called “strawberry meth” or “strawberry quick,” allegedly being distributed to schoolchildren in the form of candy.

In an advisory on Friday, the police clarified that the widely circulated claim is a long-standing internet hoax that first surfaced in 2007 in the United States.

Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said law enforcement agencies, including the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), have repeatedly stated that no credible evidence supports the existence or widespread distribution of such flavored methamphetamine targeting children.

He advised parents/public to remain vigilant but avoid spreading unverified messages before sharing and report any suspicious activities to school authorities or law enforcement.

Citizens with concerns or credible information related to drug-related issues have been urged to contact the Capital Police at 112, the SP said.
