Itanagar, Feb 11: Two persons were killed after an 18-wheeler trailer truck lost control and crashed on NH-415 near Soge Resort, Hollongi Road, on Monday evening, police said.
Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said the accident occurred around 7:00 pm when the truck (MH-46H-2482), owned by M/S Ganpati Drilling, was transporting heavy drilling equipment for a gas pipeline project.
The vehicle, while navigating a sharp turn, collided with a roadside hilly slope, resulting in a fatal crash. The impact caused the heavy cargo to shift forward, crushing the truck cabin and trapping both occupants inside, the SP said.
The deceased have been identified as driver Ripam Boruah (30), a resident of Sibsagar, Assam, and helper Mehedi Hasan (24), from Murshidabad, West Bengal. Both succumbed to their injuries on the spot, SP Singh said.
A rescue operation was launched by Chimpu police and company staff, and the bodies were retrieved from the wreckage. The remains were initially shifted to RKMH Hospital before being sent for post-mortem at TRIHMS, Naharlagun, on Monday following an inquest in the presence of company officials.
A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station and the investigation has been handed over to sub-inspector N S Liyang.
