Itanagar, Feb 13: Akashvani Itanagar joined the world in celebrating World Radio Day on Thursday by organizing an event at the station, with staff from all departments taking part.

This year’s theme, ‘Radio and Climate Change’, highlighted radio's important role in spreading awareness about climate issues.

Dean of the Forestry department at NERIST Dr P R Gajurel in his address, stressed the need to raise awareness about climate change, especially in Arunachal Pradesh, where diverse geography makes radio an essential tool for reaching remote communities.

Dr Gajurel also suggested a collaboration between Akashvani Itanagar and NERIST’s Forestry department to create programs on climate and conservation that would benefit rural listeners.

Akashvani Itanagar station head N Ramanjanappa, talked about the station's role as the largest radio network in the world, continuing to expand its reach even to the most remote areas.

He stated that the 100 W FM transmitter in Basar was recently revived and is now back to serving the region with infotainment.

Ramanjanappa also pointed out that despite the rise of new media, Akashvani remains trusted and respected by listeners.

Head of programs Bengia Gooma, shared the station's achievements, including its wide variety of programs for listeners across the state. He also highlighted the availability of the NewsOnAIR app for Android and iOS, making it easier for people to listen to radio anytime, anywhere.

To honor their hard work, 11 staff members from various departments were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the station.
