Tawang, Feb 13: Tawang district has been reeling under heavy snowfall since Tuesday evening, severely disrupting daily life in the border district.

The entire region is blanketed in thick snow, according to district officials.

While snowfall is common in Tawang, this prolonged and intense spell has caused widespread interruptions to essential services, including electricity, water supply, and communication networks.

Falling trees and the weight of snow on power and communication lines have led to outages in certain areas. Although shops remain open, footfall is low, with residents venturing out only for essential purchases.

Attendance in schools has dropped significantly as vehicles are unable to operate on snow-covered roads, and walking on frozen snow is proving hazardous. Various departments, including the power, public health engineering, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), PWD, and rural works department, are working relentlessly to restore essential services.

Meanwhile, police and army personnel are actively assisting stranded tourists and commuters in the Sela and Jaswant Garh areas.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the army and other agencies to ensure effective emergency response measures.

Weather forecasts predict that snowfall and adverse conditions may persist for the next few days. However, no reports of significant damage or accidents due to the weather have been received so far, officials said.

Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay informed through official advisories.

The district administration has assured the public that they are committed to ensuring safety and minimizing the impact of the snowfall on daily life.
