Itanagar, Feb 14: Two police personnel in Kra Daadi district were suspended for drug consumption, and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them, a senior district police official said on Friday.
The two were arrested along with two civilians during a raid at a meat shop in Palin, the district headquarters, on Wednesday night, the official said.
A team from the Palin police station, led by sub-inspector Nong Jongkey and assistant sub-inspector Gyamar Tapin, conducted the raid with the assistance of Bazar Welfare Committee secretary Takam Guna.
During the operation, they seized two vials of a suspected contraband substance weighing approximately 2.24 grams, according to Kra Daadi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sepraj Perme.
“Four individuals found at the shop under suspicious circumstances were apprehended including, the shop owner Hasim Ali, another civilian Logyo Talo and two police constables, Khilah Ronrang and Abo Wangsu,” the SP said.
Perme added that the prime suspect, Rafikul Islam from Assam, believed to be involved in drug possession and peddling, escaped under the cover of darkness and heavy rain.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Palin police station, and SI N Jongkey has been tasked with the investigation. A lookout notice has been issued at all checkpoints to apprehend the absconding accused, the SP added.
Perme assured that efforts are underway to trace the source of the drugs, identify consumers, and unravel the supply chain and operational methods of the suspected drug network. PTI
