Itanagar, Feb 18: Two students from Arunachal Pradesh studying at Delhi University were allegedly attacked by a group of unidentified men late Monday night in the Ashram area, sources said.
Source said the incident took place around 11:30 pm in Siddhartha Extension when the duo, riding a two-wheeler, was stopped by the miscreants. What started as verbal harassment quickly escalated as the attackers reportedly hurled racial slurs and grabbed one of the students by the collar, attempting to intimidate them.
When the students resisted, the situation worsened. The assailants allegedly called for reinforcements, leading to a violent assault that left one of the victims with head injuries.
A disturbing video of the attack, now widely circulated on social media, shows one of the students bleeding profusely, desperately seeking help.
The injured students were rushed to AIIMS for initial treatment before one of them was transferred to a private hospital, where he is currently undergoing medical care.
The Special Police Unit for North-Eastern Region (SPUNER) has taken up the matter and is working closely with the Arunachal Students' Union Delhi (ASUD) to ensure a proper investigation.
ASUD vice president Pisa Tate strongly condemned the attack, stating that the union is in continuous contact with both the victim and SPUNER officials. While no formal complaint has been lodged yet, the union has assured that legal action will follow once the victim’s statement is recorded.
Police said an investigation is underway, and further details will be shared in due course. (NewsFy)
