Itanagar, Feb 28: A minor girl reported missing from Itanagar in December last year has been traced to Guwahati, and the accused, her elder brother, has been apprehended, police said on Friday.

According to the police, an FIR was received on January 31, from a 47-year-old resident of Chimpu, Itanagar, stating that his daughter had gone missing on December 5, 2024, around 5 pm.

Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said, a case was registered at the Itanagar Women Police Station under section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation was initiated.

“The girl was later traced to Guwahati, and the suspect in her alleged abduction was taken into custody. During the investigation, the victim’s statement was recorded under Section 180 of BNSS, revealing that the accused is her biological elder brother. She alleged that he first sexually assaulted her in 2022 and continued the abuse over the past two years,” the SP said.

Based on her statement, additional charges under Section 87 of BNS and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the case.

The police confirmed that the victim has undergone a medical examination, and further investigation is underway.
