Itanagar, Mar 1: In a groundbreaking initiative to bridge the gap between clinical practice and biomedical research, Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) jointly organised a research facility training and two-day hands-on workshop on molecular biology techniques in medical research on February 27 and 28 last.

The first-of-its-kind workshop aimed to sensitise clinicians and doctors to biomedical research by providing expert-led training in molecular biology techniques relevant to clinical applications.

The workshop was spearheaded by the multidisciplinary research unit (MRU) of TRIHMS, with the objective of equipping doctors with the necessary research skills to enhance clinical investigations.

Eleven doctors from the departments of Biochemistry, Pathology, Ophthalmology, Anatomy, Physiology, Community Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pharmacology participated in the intensive training.

Nodal officer of MRU Dr Ashok Dethe emphasised that MRU was established to support and promote clinical research within the institute, and this workshop represents a significant step in that direction by offering an advanced clinical research facility to interested doctors.

Workshop organizing secretary Dr Arnab Ghosh, a molecular biologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at RGU, underscored the importance of genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology techniques in the era of personalized medicine.

The hands-on training introduced participants to genomic and protein-related experimental data, enabling them to design and execute research studies independently.

He also highlighted that the Molecular Biology and Biomarker Research Laboratory at RGU, which hosted the training, is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation and that the workshop falls under Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) activities.

RGU vice-chancellor, Prof S K Nayak, lauded TRIHMS’ role in advancing medical research in Arunachal Pradesh and affirmed RGU's commitment to fostering collaborations between the two premier institutions.
