Siang district launches cataract blindness backlog free campaign

Boleng, Mar 4: In a major initiative to eliminate preventable blindness, the cataract blindness backlog free (CBBF) campaign was officially launched in Siang district on Tuesday.

Siang zilla parishad chairperson (ZPC) Osi Mibang inaugurated the programme, which is spearheaded by Dr Taba Khanna, state programme officer (NPCB VI).

The campaign aims to provide free cataract surgeries for elderly individuals suffering from cataract-related blindness.

As part of the initiative, a dedicated team comprising state and district health officials, along with Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), will conduct house-to-house surveys in every village to identify patients in need.

Identified cataract patients will receive free surgical treatment at General Hospital, Aalo, according to an official communiqué.

To ensure comprehensive care, the district health society will cover all expenses, including transportation, post-surgery care, and the distribution of free reading glasses for beneficiaries.
