Likabali, Mar 5: The Lower Siang district administration has imposed speed limits on all categories of vehicles within Likabali township, citing concerns over reckless driving and public safety risks. The directive takes effect immediately.

The regulation applies to the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road, covering the stretch from the check gate to the Assam Border Outpost point. Under the new restrictions, heavy vehicles such as buses, trucks, and dumpers are required to maintain a maximum speed of 20 km/h.

Medium light vehicles, including Tata Sumo, Tata Mobile, and Winger, are also limited to the same speed. Light motor vehicles, including private cars, are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 30 km/h, while two and three-wheelers must also adhere to the 30 km/h limit.

The restrictions have been enforced under Chapter VIII of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, along with Sections 112, 183, and 184 of the Act, and Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The superintendent of police has been directed to ensure strict implementation of the speed limits to prevent accidents and improve road safety.

The district administration has urged all motorists to comply with the regulations, emphasizing that adherence to the speed limits is crucial to ensuring public safety and maintaining smooth traffic movement in the township.
