Doimukh, Mar 13: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) and the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to enhance capacity-building initiatives in adventure sports and mountaineering.
The event, held at the RGU campus in Rono Hills, aims to promote skill development among students through structured training programs.
One of the key highlights of the event was the launch of the NSS volunteer T-shirt by RGU’s acting vice chancellor, Prof S K Nayak.
In his address, he emphasized the university’s commitment to adventure sports and youth development, stating that the partnership with NIMAS would provide students with opportunities to engage in mountaineering and adventure training while fostering leadership, teamwork, and endurance.
RGU registrar Dr N T Rikam, who participated in the MoU signing, said the initiative would strengthen the university’s efforts in promoting resilience and teamwork through adventure activities.
NIMAS director Col. Ranveer Singh Jamwal (SM, VSM) highlighted the importance of adventure training, rescue operations, disaster risk reduction, and water sports. He also provided insights into various courses available at NIMAS, including mountaineering, paragliding, and water sports, underscoring the institute’s state-of-the-art facilities and experienced trainers.
RGU joint registrar and chairperson of the Adventure and Mountaineering Club, Dr David Pertin, termed the collaboration a milestone in fostering adventure, skill development, and leadership among students and employees.
Deputy Registrar (Institute of Innovation, Skill, and Youth Development) Gomar Basar provided an overview of RGU’s NSS and adventure club initiatives, while Dr K P Singh, Head of the Department of Social Work and Chairperson of IISYD, read out the MoU’s key points before the signing.
The event, held at RGU’s Mini Academic Hall, was attended by faculty members, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, and students.
