Pasighat, Mar 15: The College of Horticulture and Forestry, CAU (I) Pasighat, organised a field day on mushroom cultivation and an input distribution program under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on mushroom project of CAU-Pasighat center.

Three progressive mushroom growers from Napit Village in East Siang district, have been successfully cultivating mushrooms.

Principal investigator of the project Dr R C Shakywar, highlighted the nutritional, medicinal, and economic benefits of oyster mushrooms. He emphasised that mushroom cultivation is a short-duration, vertical farming venture, offering great opportunities for small and marginal farmers, self-help groups (SHGs), and women entrepreneurs.

The event was attended by 40 participants, including 38 women and two men in the village.

Miss Minam Ering, a progressive mushroom grower, has been cultivating mushrooms for the past three years. As part of the program, essential inputs such as spawn, polypropylene bags, and mini sprayers were distributed to all participants.

The program was funded by the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research at Solan in Himachal Pradesh.
