Pangin, Mar 15: In a bid to promote sustainable tourism and cultural preservation, over 120 participants from across Siang district attended an orientation programme on homestay hospitality, here on Saturday.

Organised by the tourism department, the event aimed to enhance hospitality management skills among homestay owners and local stakeholders.

The programme featured a technical session by tourism expert Raj Basu from Help Tourism, along with resource persons including tourism deputy director Bengia Manna Sonam, head of the State Food Craft Institute (SFCI) S Kar, head of Amthropology department at Dibrugarh-based Kanoi College Dr Moromi Talukdar, and Prasanjeet Sharma, International Heritage Walk guide.

Discussions focused on cultural preservation, guest management, and heritage tourism, with practical training on hospitality etiquette, pricing, and hygiene.

To encourage homestay participation, the district tourism officer’s office distributed free application forms, along with brochures and booklets on cultural tourism and homestay management.

The event was also attended by ZPC Osi Pabin Mibang, DTO Niyang Pertin, gaon burahs, PRI members, and the public.

Following the programme, officials visited Pangin’s ‘Clean Model Village’ to explore its tourism potential.

The tourism department plans to develop Pangin and neighboring villages into a heritage village circuit, fostering community-driven tourism while safeguarding indigenous traditions.
