Itanagar, Mar 17: The Contemporary Communiqué Club (C3), an alumni collective of mass communication graduates from Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), has hailed the state government's decision to introduce Mass Communication courses at the undergraduate level in Dera Natung Government College, here, and Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat.

Calling it a ‘landmark move’, C3 commended Education minister Pasang Dorjee Sona and chief minister Pema Khandu for their visionary leadership in making this long-awaited initiative a reality.

The milestone was officially approved through an official notification on Monday, issued by Education commissioner Amjad Tak.

The notification stated that “The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh is pleased to accord approval for the introduction of the Mass Communication course at the undergraduate level in D N Govt. College, Itanagar, and J N College, Pasighat.”

This approval fulfills a decades-long demand from students and alumni of mass communication. Since RGU launched its postgraduate program in 2004, graduates have persistently advocated for broader access to media education in the state.

On February 21, a delegation from C3, led by Chair Dr Prem Taba and Co-Chair Dr Yami Landi, met Sona, submitting a representation urging the inclusion of Mass Communication and Journalism courses in government colleges and Arunachal Pradesh University (APU) at Pasighat.

The delegation highlighted the challenges faced by over 700 RGU graduates, who possess expertise in journalism, filmmaking, and public relations, critical skills for state’s growth, but are limited by the lack of local opportunities.

Expressing joy over the development, C3 in a statement on Monday said, “Today, we stand elated as this vision has materialized. Mass Communication has finally found its place in state’s education system, thanks to the inspiring leadership of education minister Pasang Dorjee Sona and the unwavering support of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.”

Since RGU first established the department in 2004, we have long dreamed of this moment. We deeply appreciate both leaders for their commitment and action. Special thanks also go to the many individuals who persistently pushed for this initiative. This marks a historic moment in mass communication education in our state, and we look forward to the successful implementation of these courses, it added.

C3 extended heartfelt gratitude to Sona for his firm commitment to this initiative, acknowledging his assurance during their February meeting and his subsequent action to bring it to fruition. They also thanked Khandu for his steadfast support in approving this transformative step, which is expected to create a robust media education ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh.

Additionally, C3 recognised the crucial contributions of education commissioner Amjad Tak and OSD Pema Norbu Thongchi, whose optimism and dedication ensured that the initiative was given due priority.
