Ziro, Mar 17: The Myoko edition of the Ziro Bird Walk (ZBW) was organized at Pige Aji, a traditional farmland, and Siikhe Lake, a water conservation site, here on Sunday.
The event, held in the early morning, coincided with the Myoko festival, the traditional spring festival of Ziro Valley, adding cultural significance to the environmental initiative.
Apatani environmentalist and Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club president, Koj Mama, said that the Myoko edition of Ziro Bird Walk was first launched in March 2024, as March and April witness the maximum migration of water birds to the valley. He informed that the second edition saw an impressive turnout.
The event was jointly organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club, Ngunu Ziro, Dutta Pyapung Conservation Club (DPCC), and the Hapoli Forest Division.
A total of 28 bird species, including Bar-headed Goose, Red-crested Pochard, Eurasian Wigeon, Gadwall, Mallard, Northern Lapwing, and Gray-headed Lapwing, were sighted during the walk.
Notable participants included Delhi Police DGP and Helping Hands president Robin Hibu, Hapoli DFO Tailyang Pali, Kamle district medical officer Dr Tage Kanno and former DySP Lod Tabyo.
Youth from Ziro Valley villages, students from St Stephen’s College, Delhi, Guwahati University, and St Claret College, Ziro, along with teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ziro, and tourists from Bangalore, also took part in the event, reinforcing community engagement in environmental conservation.
