Boleng, Mar 18: The Arunachal Pradesh government is committed to the development of education in the state, deputy chief minister Chowna Mein said on Tuesday, announcing an allocation of Rs 3,000 crore for the education department.

Additional funds will be provided if required to achieve the desired transformation, he said.

Mein was speaking at the 5th Siang Unying Giidi Festival 2025 at Giidi Ground, Boleng, where he participated in the celebrations with the Adi community alongside Education Minister P D Sona. The festival heralds the arrival of spring and the beginning of the cultivation season.

Highlighting the festival’s significance, Mein stressed its role in nature conservation and biodiversity promotion. He urged the community to continue their ancestral tradition of sustainability by preserving natural resources.

“As tribals, we have lived in harmony with nature for generations. We must preserve this legacy through collective efforts for future generations,” he said.

The deputy chief minister also proposed recognizing the festival as a conservation festival to reflect the Adi community’s deep respect for nature.

On the state budget, Mein said it has been framed to address the aspirations of the people while ensuring inclusivity across all sections, including women, youth, and marginalized groups. The government’s priority remains investment in human capital, particularly through revamping the education sector, he said.

The deputy chief minister also sought blessings from Nanyi Me:té for peace, prosperity, and harmony. He thanked Panchayat Raj and Rural Development minister, Ojing Tasing, for the invitation and commended the people of Boleng for their efforts in preserving their cultural heritage.

The festival showcased vibrant cultural performances, including the Mithun Fight (Hobo Molik), Mega Dance, Tapu (war dance), and traditional folk presentations by DPYK Boleng. Dignitaries also visited the Mihum Kumhung Museum, which featured artifacts, pottery, costumes, and archival photographs depicting the history of the Adi community. Indigenous stalls displayed handcrafted textiles, traditional ornaments, and local delicacies.

Among those present at the event were MLAs Nyabi Jini Dirchi, Topin Ete, Talem Tabo, Oni Panyang, Punyo Apum, Tojir Kadu, Tapi Darang and former Ministers Tamiyo Taga and Tahung Tatak.

Later, Mein, accompanied by Tasing, held a review meeting with the district administration and heads of departments at the DC office.

He assessed the implementation status of various schemes in the district and directed officials to prepare a Master Plan for the district headquarters. The proposal will be taken up with the chief minister and the planning department.

Siang deputy commissioner P N Thungon and SP J K Lego were also present at the meeting.
