Itanagar, Mar 18: The Department of Social Work at Rajiv Gandhi University marked World Social Work Day on Tuesday, aligning with the global theme, "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing."

Observed annually on the third Tuesday of March, World Social Work Day recognizes the role of social workers in promoting social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability. This year’s theme underscores the need for intergenerational collaboration to foster resilience, environmental conservation, and the exchange of knowledge between generations.

The event at Rajiv Gandhi University was coordinated by students of the department, with the head of the department delivering the inaugural address.

Faculty members also shared insights on the importance of intergenerational solidarity in achieving long-term societal well-being. The programme was attended by teaching assistants, research scholars, and students from both the bachelor and master of social work programmes.

The week-long celebration, running from March 18 to 22, includes an Intergenerational Dialogue, HIV/AIDS Awareness and Screening, a flash mob based on the World Social Work Day theme, a poster-making showcase, an expert panel discussion, a community outreach initiative under the Connect Programme, and a social media campaign encouraging participation with the hashtags #WSWD2025 and #IntergenerationalSolidarity.

The department highlighted that these initiatives reflect its commitment to the core values of social work while fostering solidarity and well-being across generations. The celebration aims to strengthen intergenerational connections and contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable future.
