Pasighat, Mar 19: A hands-on training oyster mushroom cultivation was conducted by the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University (I), Pasighat under the AICRP on mushroom project by Principal Investigator Dr RC Shakywar and sponsorship of ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan in collaboration with the Loiliang youth.
Dr Shakywar spoke on the consumption of mushrooms. He said mushrooms were cultivated because forest and log mushrooms were eaten by people resulting in casualties.
He also spoke on the cultivation of scientific oyster mushrooms at our own house with minimum cost of cultivation along with nutritional, economical and medicinal importance.
Dr Shakywar said people with blood pressure and diabetes should eat mushrooms as it has less sugar and cholesterol.
Salimso Chapei, a farmer from Loiliang, is developing a mushroom spawn production laboratory for preparation of mushroom spawn for progressive growers.
Altogether 65 unemployed youth including 60 women attended the training.
