Itanagar, Mar 20: An awareness camp and free assessment on autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), special learning disability, and down syndrome was conducted by the Anya Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd in collaboration with the Superintendent of Police (SP) office, Naharlagun/Nirjuli on Thursday.
The event saw 60 police personnel being sensitized on recognizing and appropriately handling individuals with these conditions particularly during interrogations, missing person cases, investigations, and law enforcement interactions, Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said.
He said the awareness programme provided officers with a deeper understanding of autism and hyperactivity disorders, equipping them with the knowledge to better assist individuals exhibiting specific behavioural patterns.
“This initiative is expected to enhance police response in cases involving missing persons or individuals requiring special attention, ensuring more empathetic and effective intervention,” he said.
The SP said this collaborative effort underscores the importance of inclusive policing and highlights the role of law enforcement in fostering a more understanding and supportive community.
