Itanagar, Apr 3: The Arunachal Pradesh Police on Thursday organized a felicitation ceremony to recognize the outstanding dedication and service of its officers, particularly for their crucial role in the ongoing war against drugs.

Home Minister Mama Natung, while attending the event, lauded the relentless efforts of law enforcement in ensuring public safety and tackling drug-related crimes.

Police personnel were felicitated during the event held at the Police headquarters here, for their contributions in the war against drugs and counter-insurgency operations against underground (UG) elements.

Their tireless efforts in combating organized crime highlight the unwavering commitment of the state police to maintaining peace and law enforcement across the state.

The war against drugs remains a top priority for the state police, a statement from the department informed.

Operation Dawn, launched on November 8, 2023, has marked a significant milestone in the mission. Since its inception, the operation has resulted in 354 registered cases, 534 arrests, and the seizure of 9,557 kilograms of narcotic substances, with an estimated market value of Rs 38 crores.

Since 2019, continued police efforts have led to the registration of 1,452 cases and the arrest of 2,619 individuals.

Law enforcement agencies have seized a total of 18,600 kgs of psychotropic substances, valued at Rs 75 crores. Additionally, authorities have destroyed 56,654.69 acres of illicit opium poppy plantations and eradicated 1,723.271 acres of cannabis cultivation.

The Arunachal Pradesh Police remains steadfast in its mission to create a drug-free and crime-free state. With strong support from the government and citizens, law enforcement agencies will continue their efforts with unwavering diligence and determination.

The department extends its sincere appreciation to its officers for their dedication and valor, reaffirming its commitment to upholding justice, ensuring public safety, and maintaining the rule of law.

During the ceremony, officers who played key roles in two significant cases - the Majibur Rahman case and the narcotics encounter case, were also honored for their exemplary service.

Their contributions have been instrumental in strengthening the fight against narcotics and reinforcing the rule of law in the state, the statement said.

In the Majibur Rahman case, Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, Itanagar police station officer-in-charge Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Inspector Sushant Saurabh Jha, SI R K Jha, constables Sandeep Yadav and Sanu Raj T, were felicitated, whose steadfast commitment ensured justice in this high-profile case.

For their commendable efforts in the narcotics encounter case, the department honored Itanagar SDPO Dirchi, IPS officers U Vibu Krishna and Vivek Maurya, inspectors Khiksi Yangfo, Sushant Saurabh Jha and Rina Sonam, SI Tamo Bakhang, ASI Manish, head constable Bamin Tani, constables C Niling, Boru Pali, Jeni Wangpan and Jayanta Baruah, whose swift and decisive action played a pivotal role in addressing the critical case.
