Wakro, Apr 3: The family of Captain K K Venkatraman (retd), a founder-patron of the Lohit Youth Library Movement and a key figure in establishing Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas (VKVs) in the state, has announced the first-ever Capt K K Venkatraman Memorial Fellowship.

The fellowship has been awarded to Ashapmai Dellang, a leading member of the Wakro Sisters, who is set to become the first state youth to qualify as a professional student of Carnatic Music in June this year.

The fellowship, carrying an award of ₹40,000, is intended to support Ashapmai in pursuing advanced studies in Carnatic music at any recognized institution, university, or under an esteemed Guru during the academic year 2025-26.

The award certificate will be presented to her by the family on May 27 next, marking the first anniversary of Capt Venkatraman’s passing.

The fellowship amount will be released once she confirms her admission to the selected course of study.

Announcing this on behalf of the family, Capt Venkatraman’s brother, Ramasubramanian, in a letter to the coordinator of the Lohit Youth Library Network, highlighted his brother’s deep commitment to the educational advancement of Arunachali youth.

He recalled how Capt Venkatraman, fondly known as "Capt.-ji" in Arunachal Pradesh, was dedicated to supporting first-generation rural Arunachali girls, often promoting the achievements of the Wakro Sisters among his senior Army and civilian contacts.

His passion for education and youth empowerment made him a strong supporter of the Lohit Youth Library Movement from its inception.

Director of the state Indigenous Affairs department, and convenor of Lohit Youth Libraries, Sokhep Kri, extended his congratulations to Ashapmai Dellang for receiving this prestigious honor.

He also expressed his gratitude to Capt Venkatraman’s family for their generous contribution in supporting the aspirations of Arunachali youth, recognising it as a significant step towards fostering education and cultural enrichment in the region.

The fellowship serves as a fitting tribute to Capt Venkatraman’s legacy, ensuring that his vision of empowering Arunachal’s young minds through education and professional growth continues to inspire future generations.
