Tawang, Apr 4: A day-long awareness training cum orientation programme on the Atma Nirbhar Bhagwani Yojana (ANBY) was successfully conducted here on Friday by the horticulture department, to inform and empower local farmers about various state-sponsored horticulture welfare schemes that promote sustainable livelihoods and self-reliance.

The programme was inaugurated by EAC-cum-DPO Sangey Wangmu Mosobi, along with district animal husbandry, veterinary and dairy development officer Dr Avang Tamin.

Addressing the event, Mosobi encouraged beneficiaries to engage actively with the resource persons during the technical sessions to fully benefit from the expertise being shared. She acknowledged Tawang’s geographical challenges, such as limited land holdings and a short agricultural season, but praised the hardworking and resilient spirit of its people.

She highlighted the schemes like ANBY, ANKY, ANPPY, and ANMPY which have been designed specifically to support farmers in such remote and demanding regions.

Dr Tamin, in his remarks, urged participants to make the most of the session by asking questions and applying the knowledge in their day-to-day practices. He emphasised the government’s broader vision of fostering self-sufficiency among farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural livelihoods.

Earlier, district horticulture officer Safior Rehman emphasised that a significant number of farmers are still unaware of the full range of benefits available to them through these schemes.

He stated that such farmer-centric initiatives play a critical role in creating lasting assets and securing a more stable future for the agricultural community.

The technical session featured expert resource persons including K B Kayastha (Entomologist), Dr A K Tiwari, and Lakshmipriya Borah (SMS) from KVK Tawang, along with Dr Dorjee Tsowang from BMMU ArSLM of the district.

The speakers provided in-depth insights into the features of various horticultural schemes, shared best practices, and discussed modern techniques aimed at improving crop productivity and resilience.

This was followed by a highly engaging technical session where farmers participated actively, demonstrating keen interest in the information provided and interacting closely with the resource persons.

The event marked a meaningful step toward building awareness and strengthening the capacity of Tawang’s farming community through targeted government initiatives.
