Pasighat, Apr 4: Police in East Siang district have arrested three persons, including an IRBn personnel, and seized over 42 grams of suspected heroin in a well-coordinated operation carried out across multiple locations on Wednesday.
Acting on specific inputs, Pasighat police station officer-in-charge, Inspector Ige Lollen, led a team comprising SI K Dagium, ASI R Lowang, Head Constable S Lingu and Constables K Kharmo and R Rukbo to raid a rented house in Gumin Nagar occupied by Mijom Damin, a serving IRBn staff currently on leave.
The search, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses and authorized under provisions of the NDPS Act, led to the recovery of 10.64 grams of suspected heroin, a mobile phone, and Rs 2,000 in cash, police said.
During interrogation, Damin disclosed that the contraband was sourced from one Ojong Osik. Acting on this input, the same team, under the supervision of Pasighat SDPO Dr Akanksha Milind Tamgadge, proceeded to Kesung Paatang and apprehended Osik, who was found in possession of 15.81 grams of suspected heroin.
Both individuals were brought to Pasighat police station, and a case (No. 25/2025) under Sections 21(B)/27(2) of the NDPS Act was registered. The matter was endorsed to SI C I Manchey for further investigation.
Further interrogation revealed the name of a third alleged peddler operating from Jonai.
A second team led by SI Dagium, with support from Assam police, apprehended one Sujit Das at 9.30 pm and seized 16.19 grams of suspected heroin from his possession.
In total, 42.64 grams of suspected heroin were recovered, and all three accused — Mijom Damin, Ojong Osik and Sujit Das — were arrested.
The Commanding Officer of 5th IRBn has placed Constable Damin under immediate suspension and initiated disciplinary proceedings.
East Siang superintendent of police, Pankaj Lamba, lauded the swift action by the police team and reiterated the district police's zero-tolerance policy against drug-related activities.
He also urged citizens to report any information regarding drug peddlers to the Anti-Drug Squad, assuring that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
