Itanagar, Apr 4: Arunachal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party ST Morcha has lauded the Centre for passing of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2005, on Friday.
Parliament early Friday approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, after the Rajya Sabha gave its nod to the contentious legislation following an over 13-hour debate.
The discussion witnessed staunch objections from opposition parties, which termed the Bill "anti-Muslim" and "unconstitutional" with the government responding that the "historic reform" would benefit the minority community.
The Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with 128 members voting in favour and 95 opposing it. It was passed in the Lok Sabha early Thursday, with 288 members supporting it and 232 against it.
The party celebrated the occasion at its headquarters here.
Arunachal unit BJP ST Morcha president Kame Yangfo reckoned that with the passing of the bill it will benefit people from other backward classes in Muslim community. Additionally, they will be allowed as members too.
While thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP government for the passing of Waqf Bill, the Arunachal unit BJP general secretary Tadar Niglar informed that it will benefit women and enable them to participate in the Waqf Board as a member which was not the case earlier.
He added that auditing in financial matters will be possible and transparent due to this.
People outside of Muslim community who have donated will also be benefitted in the respective matter, Niglar added.
