Tawang, Apr 7: In a major push for sustainable horticulture and farmer livelihoods, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darrang on Monday handed over high‑yielding exotic vegetable seeds including, broccoli, red cabbage, yellow and green zucchini, capsicum, and leek, to the chairperson of Tawang Green Farmer Producer Company Ltd, Nawang Chonzom.

The free distribution aims to diversify local produce, improve food security, and raise farmers’ incomes through market oriented, organic cultivation.

The seeds were procured by district horticulture officer Safior Rahman as part of a collaborative effort to introduce scientific farming practices across the district. By offering these exotic varieties at no cost, the administration hope to encourage farmers to experiment with new crops and tap into higher value markets.

Addressing the gathering, Darrang urged farmers to adopt crop specific organic methods and follow scientific cultivation techniques to ensure quality yields.

“Sustainable farming isn’t just good for the land, it’s essential for securing better returns and a brighter future for our farming community,” he said.

Expressing gratitude, Chonzom thanked both the DC and the DHO for their steadfast support.

“This initiative empowers our farmers to embrace productive, profitable agriculture and positions Tawang as a leader in sustainable horticulture,” she remarked.
